Technology Workshops with ComputerXplorers

ComputerXplorers is all about having fun with technology.  As part of our schools programme we offer a wide range of technology related workshops in everything from video games design and programming to 3D animation and lego robotics.

ComputerXplorers’ programmes help you to meet the Curriculum for Excellence standards not only in ICT but also in science, engineering, language and literacy.  We do this by providing structured lessons using leading educational technology programs to develop skills, knowledge and critical thinking.

Examples of some of the Workshops on offer:

Video Game Design and Coding

Students will learn how to program their own Video Game using Scratch. Scratch was designed to engage the imagination – encouraging children to imagine new types of stories and games and new ways of using computers.  Students learn to code and program and to select, create and manage multiple forms of media, including text, images, animation and audio recordings.

Curriculum Topics Covered:

  • Technology: programming; using software media; designing and creating a working model
  • Multimedia; working with digital artifacts; pictures; text, video and sound

Robotics and Engineering with LEGO WeDO

Using the latest Lego robotics technology to build and program amazing creatures that can move using motors, gears and wheels.  Students will learn how to program sensors to make the robot react to its surroundings.  Program robot birds to chirp, crocodiles to snap and plane engines to rev! The workshop is great fun and ideal for nurturing skills in technology, maths and engineering.

Curriculum Topics Covered:

  • Science: Working with simple machines, gears, levers, pulleys; transmission of motion
  • Technology: Programming; using software media; designing and creating a working model
