CLPL Opportunity for Primary Staff – CFE016 Fischy Online – 6th February 2015

Fischy Music has been funded by the Scottish Government to build an online platform that will enable Primary Schools across Scotland to have access to musical resources in classrooms for Health and Wellbeing work.

A briefing session has been scheduled for Friday 6th February 2015, 1.30-3.30, Saltire Rooms, John Muir House, Haddington

Staff attending can expect to find out more about this online resource, which is linked to the Curriculum for Excellence by outcomes and topic and it is easy to search for songs by theme or keywords.

Teachers can use songs:

  • In different locations in the School via computers, tablets and smartboards
  • Via different means: lyrics, video, teaching ideas, symbol movies
  • For different purposes: discussions, classroom activities and more

Add the fun factor to important Health and Wellbeing topics

Catchy, accessible songs which have been thoroughly tested for effectiveness

Empower teachers to tackle difficult issues

Songs reach pupils in a different way from regular classroom activities and using a ‘third party’ for inspiration helps engagement

Build coping strategies

Wide range of topics covered, including managing emotions, bullying, loss, friendship and transition. Help pupils see they aren’t alone in what they are dealing with

Curricular outcomes and lesson planning

Search by Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes as well as other themes and topic areas – accessible at work and home

Support a range of learning styles and inclusion

Resources accompanied by British Sign Language, specifically created for Additional

Support Needs and different styles of learning

Gain confidence in teaching new songs

Our videos and notes make it easy to pick up new songs – and the signs and actions!

Practise in class – benefit in assemblies

Help assemblies flow, when pupils already know the words and actions; sheet music and guitar chords all included
