Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh Photography Competition 2015

Organised by the Friends of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

imagesCAHBDHA4Are delighted to announce that the Photography Competition has returned for 2015. Over the last few years we have received an astounding variety of images that have portrayed the wonderful views to be seen in the Gardens, the many different plants that contribute to the overall beauty of those views and the insects that exist, largely unseen, in remarkable worlds of their own, right under our eyes. Once again we’re calling on you to take your cameras and seek out the most striking images you can find to help us capture the beauty of our treasured Gardens. This year we’ve also added a new category to showcase the wide variety of flora that can be found throughout Scotland; Scotland’s Flora.

The competition will open on Sunday 1 February and will run until Tuesday 30 September 2014.

The entry form can be opened using the link below. You will need a programme that can open PDF files which are widely available to download for free.

For further information:- http://www.rbge.org.uk/whats-on/photo-comp

All funds raised will be used to support the Garden’s world class research and conservation work.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2015

This is a link to the downloadable, cross-curricular teaching resources produced by the Holocaust Educational Trust: http://www.het.org.uk/index.php/education-general

Here is a link to the Scottish Ambassadors’ facebook page (you have to ‘like’ it to follow!): https://www.facebook.com/hetrascotland, A virtual learning community where we will be posting events to attend in Scotland, teaching activities and videos, information about the Trust’s 70 voices app with Holocaust Survivor testimonies, information about relevant films and TV programmes on this week as well as our #DontHateCreate facebook campaign:

‘#DontHateCreate is a campaign in Scotland inspired by the cultural legacy of the artists, poets and musicians imprisoned at the Terezin camp in the Holocaust. They showed how hope and human creativity can overcome adversity. Create something related to the Holocaust (eg. Art/song/poem/short-story/photography/graphic-strip/candle/etc.) OR share something already out there which you like. Post it with #DontHateCreate, copy+paste this description and tag 5 friends to raise awareness for Holocaust Memorial Day. Forfeit is to tag 10 friends. Get creative!’

Lastly, this is a 12m video I created back in 2009 with another Ambassador for the Trust, after visiting Auschwitz. It is already shown in some East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire schools, you are welcome to show in your school if you like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pIgYBdKUvo
