Eco Group – ‘Gardens Open Day’

The eco group really enjoyed showing off all their hard work to the local community on Monday. The eco reps acted as tour guides to show their visitors around the school courtyard and their displays. Thank you to everyone who came. Have a look at our Eco Group page to see some photos from the event.

Eco Group ‘Garden’s Open’ Day

The Eco group are celebrating all the hard work they have put in to transform the school courtyard this Monday 25th June between 11am and 12pm. They are making a display of the work they have done over the last 5 years and will be taking visitors on tours of the courtyard.

All parents/friends/family are welcome to drop into school during this time and be shown round by an eco-rep. We hope to see you there!

Jubilee House Activity Day

Our Jubilee House Activity Day has been a huge success. The children have had a fantastic morning working their way round lots of fun activities.

Thank you very much to everyone who contributed home baking – there was plenty for all pupils and staff! Also a big thank you to the staff and parents who have helped out this morning.

Jubilee Celebrations – House Activity Day

This term we are organising our 2nd House Activity Day. Last year was linked to Comic Relief, this year is linked to the Queen’s Jubilee. This will take place on Friday 1st June. The children will work in mixed groups around a variety of activities. There will also be a bake sale to raise money for charities the Queen is patron of.

If you would like to help out on the day, get in touch with Miss Johnson in P7a and please bring in some home baking on Thurs 31st May or Fri 1st June to help support the bake sale.

On the House Activity Day, the children are welcome to come to school dressed in their house’s colour.

Eco Group

Find out what the eco group have been up to by clicking on our page (look under pupil groups).

This week, the children and staff from the kite room helped the eco group monitor the success of the house litter bins. They completed a litter pick up in the playground. They collected 1/2 a bag of litter. In comparision to the 2 bags we collected before introducing the new bins, this is much better. Well done to P1-4, there was hardly any litter in their playgrounds. P5-7, you need to kept on working hard to use the bins, most of the litter was found in your playground!

Clothes Recycling Bin

Earlier this month the Eco Group organised a clothes recycling bin for the foyer of the school. It was collected and weighted today by the Nessie Company and the Eco Group received over £55 for the clothes collected! This was a tremendous amount of money to make in 3 weeks. Thank you very much to everyone who handed in unwanted clothes. The Eco Group are going to spend the money on fruit and veg plants for classes to plant in the courtyard.

The big yellow bin is now empty and ready to be filled again, so please hand in any old clothes, shoes or bags.

Thanks for your support.

P6/7 Burke and Hare Production

P6 and P7 are putting on a musical production of Burke and Hare this month. We have been practising hard and are loving learning all of the songs and dance moves. All P6 and P7 parents are welcome to attend – each pupil is entitled to 2 tickets. Fill in the letter that came home if you would like your tickets. There may be more nearer the time if not everyone uses their quota.

Any Spare Guttering?!

The eco-group are planning on saving and recycling water by adding a water butt to the courtyard. We are looking for any plumbers or DIY enthusiasts who have any left over plastic guttering or down pipe we can fix to our sheds.

Please get in touch with the janitor Mr Bonner if you can help us.

Eco Group Update

The eco group spoke in assembly on Thursday to update the school on what they are working on:

  • Clothes Recycling – please put any unwanted clothes, bags and shoes into the yellow bin in the school foyer. The bin will be weighted fortnightly and the eco group will receive money for every kg weighed.
  • House litter bins – each playground has 4 coloured litter bins. Put your litter into your house’s bin. The bin with the most litter will win extra points for their house!

Football Fundraiser!

With Mrs Middlehurst’s help, our P7 football team ran a bakesale and raffle for P6 and P7 on Friday to raise money for new football strips. They raised an excellent £163.45!

They have also had a very generous donation of £150 from Howden Joiners which covers the cost of new strips for the whole squad.

Thanks very much to everyone who helped out by baking or buying on the day.
