Primary 3D – Snow Day Activities

Morning everyone and happy World Book Day!

I hope that you are all keeping safe and warm and that you are having lots of fun time in the snow!

To keep you busy today, I would love you to choose 1 or 2 of these activities to complete!

-Build a snow castle then take a picture and get an adult to send it to me on dojo or bring the picture in to school.

-As it is World Book Day, share your favourite book with someone at home. After reading the book, draw a picture of your favourite character and write 3 exciting sentences about that character.

-Write a poem about the snow! You could write a Haiku, an acrostic or a Winter is…poem!

-Spend some time playing Hit the Button to practise your times tables.

-Make some snowballs! Measure how far you can throw them! What is your furthest throw? Who in your family was able to throw the furthest?

It would be awesome to see some of your pictures today on class dojo or you can bring your work to school with you when we return!

P6C Blog – Week Beginning 17th April

In P6C, it has been a busy but positive first week back. We all changed tables for our last term in P6. We are ready to make our final term the best one yet! In Literacy we did some writing about the fun we had over the Easter break. We learned some new words for spelling linked to our new Human Body project. In Drama, we played lots of different games. It was hard and our highest in the number game was 5 so we had to keep starting again. In Maths, we were looking at compass directions. We have produced some very detailed mind maps about our class novel, Midnight Gang by David Walliams. We also had to write a review about our favourite film. We enjoyed that because we were interested in the film. Miss McKay is hoping this will help us to write better reviews on the books we have read. We have started our new Science project about the Human Body. We started out making Skeletons with split pins and we have done some Listening and Talking to learn more facts about how amazing our skeleton is. We learned that there are 206 bones in our body, the skeleton is stronger than steal but weighs less than 10kgs, the hand has 27 bones therefore has the most movement of all and we learned that the foot has 26 bones and 33 joints. We also managed well to keep up with our Daily Mile. In assembly this week we were thinking about aspirational leaders. We were discussing the fact that every single person in our school can be a leader.

P6C Blog – Week Ending 23rd September 2016

In Social Studies this week, we have been comparing the lives of rich and poor children in the Victorian times. We learned that most poor children would work in coal mines or factories or cotton mills. Poor children sometimes had to beg on the streets and orphans had to go to work in the workhouses. When the poor children were working they were only paid 8p per year! We are glad we are children now not in the Victorian times. Rich Victorian children did not have to work. P6C Blog – Week Ending 15th September 2016

In P6C, it has been a busy week because it is a shorter week. We have been learning about how Victorian children had to work if their families were poor. Some only got paid 8p per year!! We were kind of shocked that children had to go out to work at the age of 4. Some of us were shocked as we have younger brothers and sisters.

In Reading, we were focusing on non-fiction and how to transfer our skills in Main and Supporting Ideas. We read about and answered questions on Roald Dahl because it would have been his 100th birthday. We created questions of our own using our Victorian non-fiction books. In Writing, we learned about a new genre of Writing called Imagined Personal Response or IPR for short. It is when you write in the first person and you have to write as if you are someone else…like stepping into someone else’s shoes. We had to pretend we were a Victorian school child. P6C Blog – Week ending 9th September

This week we have been learning more about the Victorians. We learned more about Queen Victoria and Victorian schools. Did you know that Queen Victoria got married to her cousin Albert? We all agree that we feel glad that we are at school now and not in the Victorian times. If you misbehaved in school you got the belt or a cane. Girls and boys were not treated as equals. P6C Blog – Week ending 2nd September 2016

This week we had a very special guest in our classroom. The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, came to visit with education ministers from around the world. We spoke to the First Minister about Making Thinking Visible. Miss McKay is teaching us about all the different routines to make us deeper thinkers. We told her all about Colour, Symbol, Image which is a routine we used to help us organise our thoughts about our class novel. She was really impressed and told us that she often thinks of the days of the week having different colours. She explained she sees Monday as red and we all thought it was because Monday’s can be really hard after the weekend. P6C Blog – Week ending 26th August 2016

Welcome back after a lovely summer.

In P6C this week we have been very busy learning about many different things. In Art we have been learning about Pablo Picasso and cubism. We are creating our own cubism self portraits. Jazz and big band were introduced in our music lesson this week, as we looked at different music genres. Co-operative learning groups were set up and we made our group shields and table tents. It was enjoyable to work and get to know other people in the class. P.E. has been a firm favourite in the class as we enjoyed learning about invasion games through playing basketball.  Mr Davis came and joined our class on Thursday and taught us about the jet stream and how it works. We learned how it pulls the air from the North Pole to the equator and how it changes temperature. This is how we sometimes get storms here in Scotland called the tail end of a storm as it comes from America where they have had a previous bad storm.

We have really enjoyed our learning over this week and hope to build on it throughout the term.

We have learned something new and we  hope you have too!
