A MESSAGE FROM GIFFORD COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Gifford Community Council road safety consultation

Speeding cars and road safety are regularly raised with the Gifford Community Council. Following extensive research, speed surveys and consultation with the police and East Lothian Council, the group is currently consulting on proposals to introduce speed cushions on each of the three main roads in the village: Duns, Edinburgh and Haddington roads.

Information is being delivered door-to-door in the village and the outskirts, and information boards and an interactive survey are available in Lanterne Rouge cafe. Details have also also been posted to https://www.gifford-village.org.uk/index.php/community-council – including a link to the online survey. We would urge people to read the online presentation with the reasons why speed cushions are being recommended over other options and also to view the speed data from the three routes.

Two drop-in sessions are being held in The Lanterne Rouge on Saturday 19 May from 3pm-5pm and Thursday 31 May from 7pm-9pm. Members of the Community Council will be present to talk through the proposals and gain feedback.

Although the consultation primarily focuses on people living in the village and surround, feedback from parents with children at Yester but who live outwith Gifford’s boundaries is welcome.

The consultation will run until 3rd June. The Community Council will meet on 11th June to consider the feedback and decide on the next steps. Your views are vital; it will only go ahead if there is enough support.
