It’s a return to winning ways, after coming 2nd last year, so congratulations to the Yester Cross Country team, who have won today’s Small Schools event!
We were delighted to have had the overall winners in both the small schools boys and girls races! A total of 11 small schools from across East Lothian took part, with Yester’s runners finishing with an excellent combined total of 73 points, well ahead of 2nd place Ormiston, who finished on 111 points.
However, it was a real team effort, so take a bow all 12 runners, who did the school proud by running their hearts out!
Today’s win means that Yester’s runners have won this trophy 8 times out of the last 9 years – a brilliant effort!
Thank you to all the parents who came along and lent their support – much appreciated.
You can find the full results and times of each runner here.
Congratulations to our team of runners, who performed admirably this morning at the annual East Lothian Cross Country Championships at Hallhill in Dunbar. With a very large entry of 20 schools overall, and 11 schools in the small schools’ category, our team finished 2nd overall, and in addition, we had the winner (out of 66 boys) in the boys’ race, and 2nd place (out of 66 runners) in the girls’ race.
Having won the trophy for the last 7 years previously to this year, it’s congratulations to Ormiston, who pipped us overall, but watch out- as we fully intend to win the trophy back in 2016!
Earlier today, our cross country team headed off to Hallhill in Dunbar for the annual East Lothian Cross Country Championships, open to all primary schools across the county.
I’m delighted to report that, for the 7th year running, we managed to win the small schools trophy, beating all the other schools easily, to finish with a combined school total of 41 points, which was considerably lower than the second placed school, East Linton, who finished on 87 points. In addition, our combined total of 41 points was lower than the winning school in the big schools competition too!
Well done to all the team on their great running again- and we even had the 1st places in both the boys and the girls’ races! And a big THANK YOU to all the parents who braved the cold conditions to cheer on the Yester team!
Earlier today, Yester’s Cross Country team set off in windy and wet weather for Hallhill in Dunbar, to take part in the annual East Lothian Primary Schools’ Cross Country Championships. The team of 12 knew that the pressure was on them, as the school had won the event for the past 5 years running. In the competition, there are four races- large schools’ girls, then small schools’ girls, then large schools’ boys, and finally small schools’ boys. Yester always run in the small schools’ races, and this year there was a record entry of 7 small schools- meaning there were 42 runners in each race! The top four positions from each team are counted towards the overall total- so it’s important to run as a team to try to win overall.
In the girls’ race, Yester runners came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th out of 42!
In the boys’ race, Yester runners came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 13th out of 42!
This gave us a team total of 29 points overall, one of the lowest scores ever recorded in the history of the competition. The 2nd place school had a total of 108 points, showing just how brilliant our runners were.
Well done to all the runners- you were absolutely FANTASTIC– winning the trophy for the 6th consecutive year!
