CAREER-LONG PROFESSIONAL LEARNING  (CLPL)

FOR SPECIALIST AND NON-SPECIALIST STAFF AND PRACTITIONERS

East Lothian YMI runs a programme of training across the year aimed at supporting accessible musicmaking across East Lothian schools.  A range of training events will be on offer for school teachers, Primary Music Specialists, and YMI music practitioners. There will  also be opportunities for school staff to participate in project-specific CLPL workshops.

Macastory Workshop 29 May 2-4.30pm

Sing & Play Workshop 27 March 2-4.30pm

CLPL opportunities regularly delivered for music staff include:

  • SAME conference (Scottish Association for Music Education)
  • National Youth Choir of Scotland training (including summer school places)
  • Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years workshops
  • Music Education Matters (MEM) conference.
  • Twilight practitioner gatherings (where specific talks and training sessions take place).

In addition, we are keen for non-specialist staff to take part in our free training, to help build confidence and sustainability in musicmaking in the classroom. CLPL opportunities vary from year to year and are provided as both one off workshop events (such as Singing Games and Rhymes for Early years) and twilight or in-workshop training related to the projects being delivered in school at the time (e.g. ABC African Drumming, Musical Discovery, Science Ceilidh & Makin a Brew).

YMI Outcomes for this work are:

  • People delivering youth music develop their skills and confidence
  • Organisations in the music sector and beyond work together to strengthen the youth music sector for the benefit of young people

The project will be delivered by external specialist organisations in the form of seminars, conferences and training sessions.
